Big Day for Spartan Football
Roberto Martinez, Alex Calderon, and Robert Dinkel await the go head signal from Mr. Burns to sign their letter of intent to play football at Garden City Community College.
One of the biggest days in Deerfield Spartan Football history happened Monday February 6 as Roberto Martinez, Alex Calderon and Robert Dinkel signed to play football at Garden City Community College.
The Library was filled with family, friends, coaches and administration to see these three boys commit to the next 2 years of their lives as college football players. Mr. Burns begun the afternoon with a congratulatory speech in which he talked about what a great opportunity these boys had in front of them. He spoke with conviction on the importance of education and that football will be tool that will provide that education for them. He closed his address with the importance of family and that these boys need us now more than ever.
All three boys have different qualities and strengths. One is an on field floor general, and as Coach Burns put it, "a coach on the field." Another an inspirational leader that plays with great pride and heart. The last a leader by example that leaves it all on the field. As different as they are, they all have one thing in common. They are all great football players and they are going to continue to play football.
All the hard work, time and effort that these boys have put in to get to this point one might think that it is all over and they have made it. But that is the furthest from the truth, it is now just beginning. Good Luck Roberto, Alex and Robert, we will be watching.
