Nick Atanasio and Lesa Paulsen, both from the Cosmosphere in Hutchinson, KS, visited the DES STEAM classroom. During their visit, they guided our 5th-grade students to use cyanotype paper to capture moments in time.

By experimenting with the UV blocking capabilities of various plants, the students used those plants creatively. They layered and arranged the plants to make art with the sun as their "paint". Along the way, they were able to observe how waves, such as those of light, can penetrate some objects but not others.
