MS Soccer 1st Goal
Boys Soccer Coach James Holt gives an update on the inaugural season for soccer. The middle school had the numbers to play, so off they went. Wondering whether to combine as a coed team so there would be plenty of substitutes to have plenty of fresh legs, the first opponent was Guymon, Oklahoma. Finding out that their rules didn’t allow for coed teams, but only girl versus girls and boys versus boys, we were challenged to make two teams work. The Guymon Tigers graciously allowed us to borrow a few of their girls as we only had eight participating. We traveled to Guymon for the first game. Playing their A team and being a class 5A school, they all played their best but fell short 0 - 10. The same evening the boys played their boys A team and lost 0 - 10. We played the same team two weeks later, and this time, playing on our home field, our girls holding Guymon to a 1 - 2 halftime score. Eventually, the tired legs surrendered the final score for the girls ended in 1 - 7, with the first-ever Deerfield goal scored as a penalty kick by 7th grader Briana Michelle Aguilar. The boys fought hard and finished 0 -10 once more. Go to www.usd216.org or download the USD 216 app for the latest stories and up-to-date information.
